Can you describe how you go about making your work?
I usually dig into specific parts of my past and I break them apart. What feelings I felt, how I perceived my encounters, what music draws out the true nature of a moment in my life. I have to think about what each song would look like performed and when it should come in the story.
What’s drives you as an artist/company?
What drives me, is love! I love art and artists and peoples who enjoy what we do! I love to perform, create, to be alive and be able to put smiles on people’s faces. If I can bring to them, a work that entertains them and leaves them with a couple laughs, then I’m more than satisfied.
How did you begin making work?
For the simple reason that, I wanted to have dance be a part of my work. I thought, “how I started dancing” would be the perfect way to convey a comedic story where I can make use of my other talent!
One thing our readers might not know about you?
I have fake cheeks, and I’ve had intense surgery on my jaw.
One thing our readers might not know about your work?
There is an audience participation part and some musical nostalgia!
What do you most like about the work you will present at this year’s festival?
I like the fact that this work tells the story of a really important turning point in my life and in a way that only my mind can cook up! But it works so well!
Why should audience members choose you?
They should, because they want to! Also when you hear the name Mr.Ocean. You have to be at least a little bit curious as to how the name came about!
Have you ever performed in a fringe Festival before?
Describe your most memorable fringe Festival experience.
Well I wasn’t performing, but I was seeing a friends show in the NYC one. He made me laugh all the way through, and then cry at the end, all while he was wearing a Spider-Man costume. That was a masterpiece!
Have you ever been to Florida or Tampa before?
What are you most looking forward to about your visit?
The beach! I was suppose to go to Florida on my friends birthday trip, they left me. Just because I had to perform around that time. Now, I’m going there to do a show. I showed them!
What do you hope to get from presenting on the Tampa Fringe?
I chose this Fringe because it’s the first! And I know it’s going to be a beautiful experience! Can’t wait to meet the amazing people in Florida!
Why did you choose the Tampa Fringe?
Notoriety, Publicity, just to name a few. But seriously, I just want people to see the awesome harmony between comedy and dance. And I would like to be noticed and hopefully offered more opportunities to do my show all over the world!
Describe the context of your work and where you come from?
My work is all about dance and centered right around that. I’m from the Caribbean specifically and then I came up to the US and stayed in Flatbush. Which almost, can still be considered the Caribbean.
Where is home and what is it like?
Home right now is Belleville, NJ. It’s quiet, there’s a big woodsy park. But I’ll always be a wandering traveler of New York City.
Anything else you would like to say?
I love dogs so much! And also come out and see my show!
