This Featured Artist is Presenting:

Who, Me.

Can you describe how you go about making your work?

It varies from show to show to be honest. Sometimes I just lock myself in my room and write, other shows I heavily collaborate, some I bring in an outside eye.

What’s drives you as an artist/company?

I just love performing, I adore connecting with an audience whether it be through a joke or a intimate story.

How did you begin making work?

I trained as an actor, while studying to be a ‘serious actor’ I feel in love with improvisation which became I number 1 passion. This lead me into working in a musical comedy trio, that lead me into running my own impro company for 6 years. Ultimately I wanted to challenge myself and see if I could entertain people on my own on a stage…so I started developing my solo work.

One thing our readers might not know about you?

I also work full-time as a teacher.

One thing our readers might not know about your work?

It can be both funny and serious…sometimes at the same time.

What do you most like about the work you will present at this year’s festival?

I get to meet and interact with other people who have similar interests and passions.

Why should audience members choose you?

We’re all obsessed with something in our lives whether it be a movie star, a TV show, a band or singer or even a sports team…it’s good to see how somebody else deals with their obsession and whether you can relate. You don’t have to be a Doctor Who fan to enjoy Who, Me.

Have you ever performed in a fringe Festival before?

Describe your most memorable fringe Festival experience.

Performing at the 2013 Edinburgh Festival Fringe was an intense but in the end incredibly rewarding experience. It was also the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who that year and Peter Capaldi was announced as the new Doctor Who while I was there. It was just a perfect time to be over there.

Have you ever been to Florida or Tampa before?

What are you most looking forward to about your visit?

I’ve been to Orlando once before but never to Tampa, I’ve heard wonderful things about Tampa…I’m eager to experience it firsthand.

Why did you choose the Tampa Fringe?

I was excited about the idea of performing at a city’s very first Fringe Festival…it’s an honour to be a part of it really.

What do you hope to get from presenting on the Tampa Fringe?

I’m looking forward to seeing the Tampa Doctor Who fans come out and chat. Also I excited to meet all the other artists performing there.

Describe the context of your work and where you come from?

In 2010 I presented my first solo show about Sherlock Holmes, in that show I had a passing line about Doctor Who. After every show I would have an audience member always come up to me and say ‘So you’re doing a Doctor Who show next?’ That made me realise that people wanted to see me talk about my favourite TV show in the world.

Where is home and what is it like?

Melbourne, Australia is my home. We have a very strong live theatre and comedy scene…I love how it’s kind of battling against the ‘Netflix & Chill‘ generation.

Anything else you would like to say?

I’m looking forward to taking in not only the local arts scene but also they local cuisine! I’ve seen the Man Vs Food Nation Tampa episode…anyone interested in taking me on a tour of the local eat-out joints?
